Climbing in Val David - New rules

To all users climbs Regional Park Dufresne Val-David/Val-Morin

Ladies and Gentlemen,

For years the climbing in Park Regional Dufresne was taken care of by the Quebec Federation of mountain and rock climbing. Access to the walls was free to members of the FQME.

From now on the municipalities of Village of Val David and Val-Morin are providing a joint management of all activities taking place in the park, including climbing.

Thus climbers are invited to purchase the annual Dufresne Regional Park membership card which includes rights of access to the walls.

Rates are $35 for residents of Val David and Val-Morin, and $50 for non-residents. This card will be available at the counter of the chalet host Anne Piche (1165, Condor Road) in Val-David.

However, in this transitional year, members of the FQME are welcome on payment of access rights to $5 daily.

In addition, all climbers must sign the register book at reception.

We hope many of you again this summer.

Groupe des Alpinistes et Grimpeurs Anonymes (conference in French)

For April, GAGA is inviting Bernard Mailhot and Philippe Pibarot.

Reading weather: cold and warm fronts

Have you ever wondered what happens when weather fronts collide?
And what exactly is the difference between the fronts apart from the obvious cold and warm adjectives?
Do you know the difference between a cold front and an upper cold front?
Uwe Gramman, M.Sc (Dipl.-Met.), Meteorologist of Mountain Weather Services explains the basics and most likely outcomes (precipitation, wind, pressure, temperature, etc. ) in the first article of his three part series on mountain weather in BC and Alberta.

Are the Mountains Killing Your Brain?

You have to be poco loco to be a climber, says Dr. Nicholas Fayed.
A neuroradiologist at the Clinica Quiron de Zaragoza, in northern Spain, Dr. Fayed leads me into his office and pulls out a collection of MRI images.
They're brain scans, taken from amateur and professional mountain climbers after they came back from major expeditions, and the results aren't pretty."
